Parliamentary Appropriations Report tabled

The report of the fourth Parliamentary Appropriations Review Committee was tabled in the House today by the Speaker, the Hon Dr Lockwood Smith.

The 2010 review committee was co-chaired by the Hon Sir Douglas Kidd and Philip Barry.

The Parliamentary Service Act 2000 requires the committee to review the amounts of money appropriated by Parliament for the purposes of:

• administrative and support services provided to the House of Representatives and to members of Parliament; and

• funding entitlements for parliamentary purposes.

In addition to the statutory terms of reference, the Speaker asked the committee to look at the levels of support funding required by constituency and list members for the effective performance of their respective functions and the funding required by members of Parliament to meet Wellington accommodation expense costs.

The appropriations review is undertaken once in every parliamentary term.

The Speaker thanked the committee for its work and said he would be giving appropriate consideration to all the recommendations contained in the report.
