Joyce should visit Dunedin and see what Kiwi workers can achieve
Labour’s Dunedin South MP Clare Curran has invited Transport Minister Steven Joyce to Dunedin, so he can see first hand that the workers at the Hillside Rail workshop are capable of building the rolling stock needed for the Auckland electrification project.
“Mr Joyce admitted in Parliament today that he has not visited either of the rail workshop yards at Woburn in Lower Hutt or Hillside in Dunedin,” Clare Curran said.
“So I am going to invite Steven Joyce to my neck of the woods to show him that Kiwi rail workers are capable of getting the job done.
“The investigation carried out for the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union and the Dunedin City Council has constructed a solid business and economic case to build the rolling stock for Auckland right here in New Zealand, by Kiwi workers.”
Clare Curran said it was
unfortunate that Steven Joyce dismissed the report before
giving it any serious consideration.
“It seems the
Minister has not even contemplated the hundreds of jobs it
would create or the positive effects to Crown revenue or the
GDP,” Clare Curran said.
“I warmly invite Steven Joyce to Dunedin so he can see that the workers at the Hillside Rail workshop are not just willing, but also skilled and capable of getting the job done.”
