Employment Court Judge appointed
Anthony David Ford, currently Chief Justice of Tonga, has been appointed as an Employment Court Judge, Attorney-General
Christopher Finlayson announced today.
His Honour, who was admitted to the bar in Auckland in May 1970, joined Bell Gully in Wellington in July 1970. He became
a Litigation Partner in 1974 specialising in employment law and commercial litigation. He acted for employers and
employees alike, including the ANZ Bank, the New Zealand Seamen's Union and all the Railway Unions. He also acted in
several high profile defamation cases.
His Honour was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Tonga from 2000 to 2006 and a Judge of the Fiji Court of Appeal from 2005
to 2007. He has been Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tonga since 2006 and also President of the Tonga Court of
Appeal.
His Honour will be sworn in at Wellington on Friday 3 September 2010.
