MEDIA STATEMENT

FOR RELEASE :

14 January 2010

NZ delegation to attend parliamentary forum in Singapore

A New Zealand parliamentary delegation led by the Deputy Speaker, Lindsay Tisch, will attend this month’s 18th Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) –the legislative wing of APEC – being held in Singapore.

Lindsay Tisch says the forum will discuss regional cooperation in the Asia–Pacific. Discussion topics will include the economy, trade, political and regional security.

Charles Chauvel MP, from the New Zealand Labour Party, will also attend.

“The forum will be a valuable opportunity for Parliamentarians in the Asia–Pacific region to discuss issues of mutual interest, develop understanding and encourage cooperation,” the Deputy Speaker said.

New Zealand is a member of the Forum’s Executive Committee, representing the Oceania Region.

The Assembly opens in Singapore Sunday, 17 January 2010, and concludes on Thursday 21 January.
