2010 Winston Churchill Fellows Announced
Tariana Turia Today Announced The Recipients Of The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowships For 2010.
“The Trust Allows New Zealanders To Apply Learnings From Their Global Counterparts To Our Own Situations At Home,” Mrs Turia Said.
“Our Community Receives Rich Benefits From The Variety Of Research Fellowships Undertaken.”
For 2010, The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Has Awarded $60,000 To 13 People.
Fellows Are Granted Up To 80 Per Cent Of Their Travel Costs And Can Spend Between Three Weeks And Three Months Overseas Researching Their Chosen Topic. The Average Grant Is From $5000 To $7000.
Since The Trust Was Formed In 1965, More Than 700 New Zealanders Have Had The Opportunity To Conduct Valuable Research Across A Diverse Range Of Fields.
The 2010 Fellows Will Conduct Research In The Fields Of Education, Sustainability, Social Services And New Zealand History And Culture, Including:
• Margaret Stewart From Marton, Who Will Travel To The United Kingdom, Hong Kong And China To Research Schools That Specialise In Teaching Dyslexic Students.
• Francis Stark From Wellington, Who Will Travel To The United Kingdom To Research The Use Of Digital Technology To Preserve And Access Audiovisual Archives.
• Debbie Hager From Waitakere, Who Will Travel To Australia And The United Kingdom To Investigate Specialised Women’s Refuge Services.
