Appointments to Guardians of NZ Superannuation

Catherine Savage and Stephen Moir have been appointed to the Board of the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation and existing board member David Newman has been appointed Deputy Chair, Finance Minister Bill English announced today.

The Board of the Guardians is responsible for managing and administering the New Zealand Superannuation Fund. Board members are appointed by the Governor-General.

"I have full confidence that the skills and experience of Ms Savage and Mr Moir will further strengthen the Board of the Guardians,” Mr English said.

"I am also pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Newman to Deputy Chair. His breadth and depth of experience means he is well suited to the role."

Mr Newman has been a member of the Guardians board since September 2004. He is Chairman of Infratil, Wellington Airport, and Loyalty New Zealand and is a director of Infratil Airports Europe.

Ms Savage is a chartered accountant and has over 17 years’ experience in the funds management industry, including as Managing Director of AMP Capital Investors NZ, a large fund management company, from 2001 to 2007.

Mr Moir has extensive experience in banking and risk management. He has held senior management positions at Citibank in Melbourne, Sydney, Bangkok and Singapore, Credit Suisse in Singapore and WestpacTrust in Wellington. He is currently a non-executive director of the Bank of New Zealand and a member of the NZX Discipline Panel.

The other four members of the seven-person Board are David May (Chair), Bridget Liddell, Mark Tume and John Evans.
