Temporary Associate Judge appointed

Roger Murray Bell has been appointed as a temporary Associate Judge of the High Court for a period of 12 months, Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson announced today.

Associate Judge Bell completed his LLB (Hons) at Auckland University in 1974 and gained a Bachelor of Civil Laws at Oxford University in 1977.

On his return to New Zealand, the Associate Judge worked as a litigation lawyer for Simpson Coates and Clapshaw and later, Bell Gully Buddle Weir. In 1986, Associate Judge Bell joined Webb Ross, becoming a partner in 1987. During that time, he specialised in civil litigation, estate litigation, resource management and local government law.

The new Associate Judge will sit in Auckland. His appointment will take effect from 27 November 2009.
