Flavell supports Rotorua carkoi to Auckland
Hundreds of people from Rotorua are getting geared up for Monday’s hikoi in Auckland, says the Maori Party MP for Waiariki Te Ururoa Flavell.
“The people here are professionals when it comes to carkoi and I’m stoked to see that hundreds of them are prepared to take part.
“I’m even more thankful to those of them who will be taking leave from work, especially in this economic climate, to stand up for the rights of others.
“It has always been our way to help a relative in need regardless of whether that relative is in Auckland, Australia or anywhere else.
“The people here know we are a small fish in a big pond but as the saying goes – with his help, with her help, with everyone’s help the people will prosper.”
The organiser for the Rotorua carkoi to Auckland is Bernie Hornfeck who has long supported a number of Maori and human rights struggles over the past few decades.
The Rotorua carkoi will depart from Apumoana Marae at 12pm on Sunday. The group will stay overnight at a kura in south Auckland.
