Dunne: Coastal
highway option dead in the water
The fact that
houses have been built in the path of a potential coastal
highway into Wellington just further reinforces Transmission
Gully as the only logical option, United Future leader and
Ohariu MP Peter Dunne said today.
“The arguments for Transmission Gully were already compelling, but frankly the fact that there are now new houses in the way of any coastal route removes it as an option,” Mr Dunne said.
“Transmission Gully simply has to occur and I think all parties need to start dealing with that reality.
“As I’ve said before, what needs to happen now is that we have to work out the best way of doing it, not if we should do it,” he said.
“This country’s capital city needs a second corridor in and out, and it needs to be a priority.
“Transmission Gully has always been the better option. It’s really now becoming the only feasible option. The sooner people stop carping on about this issue and just get on with it, the better,” Mr Dunne said.
