National imposes largest ever tax on business
National's tax Bill imposes the largest tax increase on business in New Zealand's history, opposition spokesperson on agriculture Jim Anderton says.
He told parliament today that the National Government's taxation bill is about destroying research and development capability in the backbone of the economy.
"No part of the export economy is more important than agriculture.
"Not only did the words agriculture and exports not appear in the Speech from the Throne, the National Government is now attacking those sectors with heavy tax increases carefully targeted at the most innovative sectors in New Zealand.
"Because our primary sectors are our most innovative, the tax increases will hit them hardest.
"This government is opposed to innovation. This government is opposed to business success. This government is opposed to the agricultural backbone of our economy.
"This Bill is what it looks like when you have a government run by sneering city financiers instead of people who understand the productive economy.
"The National government's very first act in this parliament is to introduce the largest tax increase on business in New Zealand's history," Jim Anderton said.
