Minister wishes students well for NCEA exams
Education Minister Chris Carter extended his best wishes to all 139,000 senior secondary students sitting NCEA and New
Zealand scholarship examinations over the next two and a half weeks.
"Each year the achievement levels of our students continue to improve and I want to wish all students taking part in
NCEA exams this year the very best," said Chris Carter.
"Visiting many secondary schools across the country I have seen first hand how hard our students work and know New
Zealand as a whole will benefit from the success of our students who are studying in New Zealand secondary schools.
"Starting this Saturday with Scholarship exams in Chemistry, Classical Studies and Te Reo Maori and finishing on
Wednesday 3 December with exams across NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3, our secondary students will face one of the biggest
challenges in their education so far."
Exam day tips from Chris Carter:
- Make sure you have a good night's sleep
- Have a good, healthy breakfast and drink lots of water to give your brain more oxygen – which can calm nerves
- Get to your exam room at least 5 minutes early
- If you can't do a question, move on and come back to it later
- If you feel stressed or confused during an exam take a 30 second break to clear your head and stretch – you will be
instantly refreshed
- Be confident!
"I'm proud of all students in the New Zealand education system and want to thank you for the hard work you put in. All
the best for your exams and I look forward to watching you all reap the rewards of a quality education."
Students will receive their NCEA results by mid January and NZ scholarship results in mid Februrary. Marked NCEA exam
papers will be returned to candidates from the end of January.
