How will Labour fund plan on super?
National Party Senior Citizens spokeswoman Sandra Goudie has welcomed Michael Cullen’s announcement that Labour plans to copy National’s policy to maintain the floor of superannuation at 66% of the average after-tax wage.
“Dr Cullen’s announcement has come after a week of uncertainty for older Kiwis, because the policy was not costed in the pre-election opening of the books. However, his announcement today does raise the question of how much worse the books will look after this important initiative is included.
“National’s plan will also put more in pensioner’s pockets because of our move to raise the after-tax wage with up-front tax cuts.
“Unlike Labour, National did include the higher rate of super in its economic plan which was unveiled last week, alongside the plan to let those on the non-qualified partner rate earn 25% more before super payments are affected.”
