April First Brings Benefits, Says Peters
Many New Zealanders will benefit from policies taking effect today as a result of New Zealand First’s confidence and
supply agreement with Labour.
Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters listed New Zealand First’s achievements taking effect on 1st April:
- A minimum wage of $12 per hour.
- Superannuation at 66 per cent of the average weekly wage.
- Lower business taxes.
“New Zealand First takes a lot of satisfaction at seeing our policies being instituted but there is still a long way to
go,” said Mr Peters.
“We are committed to pursuing a higher minimum wage rate of $15 per hour, and further incremental rises in
superannuation to relieve some of the pressure many Kiwis are struggling under.
“Lower taxes for businesses are a must if they are not to be penalised for being productive. Equally, if employers want
sustainable economic growth and a stable productive workforce then conditions and pay must also be fair. And if we don’t
want our older citizens living in penury then superannuation must be kept in line with wages.
“New Zealand First will continue to push for further measures to improve the lives of New Zealanders,” said Mr Peters.
