Dunne welcomes friendlier PHARMAC
Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne is delighted at the Government drug-buying agency PHARMAC's efforts to get closer
to the people it works with.
PHARMAC recently held an in-depth survey of representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, health professionals and
consumer groups about their views on PHARMAC and found consumers and health professionals did not feel connected with
the agency.
So PHARMAC will hold a stakeholders' forum next month in an effort to change that view.
"This is a proactive move by PHARMAC and it's consistent with the feedback we received during our consultation over the
Medicines Strategy,'' Mr Dunne says.
"PHARMAC have shown they are committed to listening to their stakeholders about their concerns. PHARMAC recognises that
transparency of decision making is important to stakeholder confidence.
"The outcome of the forum next month will be linked in to the Medicines Strategy.
"I am pleased with the willingness of consumers and others to take part in the consultation process, as it signals a new
climate for collaboration within the medicines sector.
This feedback has played a significant role in shaping the Medicines Strategy which, together with my plan of action, I
look forward to releasing early next month, "said Mr Dunne.
