National Goes Under The Hammer
Artwork from National MPs are set to be auctioned on Trade Me to help raise funds for local electorates.
It is the first organized art auction by a political party on the popular website.
The 'National PoliPics Art Auction' which features light hearted artistic out takes of political life were created in between parliamentary sessions.
Art Auction Committee member, Craig Turley, said loosely coined 'PoliPics', artwork by MPs generally have captured the public's imagination.
"Many pieces have become highly sought after, controversial and of historical interest," he said.
Included amongst the 'National PoliPics Art Auction' artwork is a quick sketch of the Beehive by National Party Leader John Key, a caricature by Hon Tau Henare and a drawing by Dr Jackie Blue who was elected President of the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians in 2001l
"All of the artworks are authentic, created by the MPs themselves and are of a light hearted nature."
The live auction which will feature on the Trade Me art section under 'drawings' is expected to run from approximately 7 p.m. Thursday 8 November to 10 p.m. on Sunday 18 November.
Additional artwork will be auctioned at a special fund raising evening to be held at Mecca Stonehouse Café in Mission Bay on Tuesday 27 November.
