Curriculum test will be in its implementation
Schools will need more support to implement the new curriculum than the bunch of workshops and a website promised by Labour today, says National’s Education spokeswoman, Katherine Rich.
“Launching the document was the easy task for the Minister. Ensuring that it's implemented effectively across all schools is the real challenge.
“Today in the House, Minister of Education Chris Carter refused to spell out what, if any, specifically tagged funding schools would have access to in order to assist them in the implementation of the new curriculum.
“His answers made it clear that, apart from the ever-growing budget of the Ministry of Education, schools will be expected to cover implementation using their operations grants.
“While acknowledging the merits of the new, simplified document, the launch of this curriculum is only the first step.
“The proof will be in its successful implementation in all schools as a living document.
“That can only happen with appropriate financial support”.
