Suits You, Sir – Eighteen73 To Open In Wellington
Hallensteins will this week open the second of its new concept menswear stores, this time in Wellington. The new store,
in Wellington’s Willis St, follows the successful launch of the concept in Auckland’s Queen St, where Eighteen73 opened
in June.
Eighteen73 caters for the corporate and urban fashion requirements of the central city customer, offering a premium
range of menswear – from suiting to streetwear – in a sophisticated retail environment.
The store name is taken from the year that Hallenstein Bros was founded. It was established by a German immigrant,
Bendix Hallenstein, who set up a clothing factory – and a retail store to sell its products – in Dunedin in 1873 in
partnership with his brothers Issac and Michaelis.
Glenn Hesson, Hallensteins marketing manager, says the Eighteen73 store is geared for corporate style, with each store
employing a tailoring consultant to provide advice on suit fitting, coordinating separates and putting together a
business wardrobe that works.
“This is a very different concept to a regular Hallensteins store, and is really designed around outfitting men for a
business environment. It’s about personal attention and about providing advice so that men can put together a corporate
wardrobe that is suitable for every occasion and gives them the maximum longevity in terms of quality and style,” he
says.
The store range is focused on quality product at affordable prices. Suits are priced from $250-$800 with the majority of
upper end suiting offered in pure wool.
The store fit-out, designed by Gascoigne Associates, features clean, modern lines and includes a small lounge area with
club chairs and a huge gilt mirror adjacent to the fitting rooms. Eighteen73 opens at 8 Willis St, Wellington, on 13
October.
