National’s partial privatisation initiative praised
Independent MP Gordon Copeland today said that he was delighted with National MP Bill English’s openness to the partial privatisation of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
“The partial sale of SOE shares to mum and dad Kiwi investors, combined with ongoing majority ownership and control by the state is right on the money,” said Mr Copeland.
“Does it provide some headroom for tax cuts? Yes. Does it assist in building an ownership society? Yes. Will it allow the Government to increase its investment in education, health and infrastructure? Yes.”
“Simply stated, it is a win/win/win outcome for New Zealand. National are onto a public policy initiative which is sensible and economically astute. It has my wholehearted support.”
