UF ticks off another win

UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne has welcomed today's release of a discussion paper from an independent panel appointed by the Minister of Conservation to explore the future management of numbers of deer, chamois, tahr and wild pigs in New Zealand.

The panel, chaired by UnitedFuture life member and former Minister of Research, Science and Technology, the Hon Margaret Austin, was established under the confidence and supply agreement between Labour and UnitedFuture.

Mr Dunne said, "UnitedFuture has long been concerned that New Zealanders get the best possible opportunities to experience the great New Zealand outdoors.

"Clearly there is a need to balance the conservation of native habitats with the rights of recreational hunters to pursue their sport.

"We see this discussion paper as an essential step in getting public input into this contentious subject," said Mr Dunne.

The paper can be viewed online at www.gameanimalpanel.org.nz or a copy requested from P O Box 9134, Addington, Christchurch 8243.
