Peters Urges Rethink

New Zealand First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters today expressed his surprise and concern at the appointment of an ex-ACT and Labour MP Ken Shirley as the CEO of the Researched Medicines Industry Association.

“Mr Shirley’s appointed to that role is of great concern to me, especially if the RMIA has an expectation that he will be able to lobby amongst politicians or political parties in order to gain support for RMIA views or initiatives,” said Mr Peters.

“Ken Shirley has very little standing within Parliamentary circles and will be thoroughly tested should he seek to engage with politicians on anyone's behalf.

“I can only hope it is not too late for the RMIA to reconsider its selection,” concluded Mr Peters.
