Clark’s Brethren boomerang
National Party Deputy Leader Bill English is surprised by Helen Clark’s “breathtaking hypocrisy” following revelations today that she met with Brethren members in 2003.
“Helen Clark and Labour have been merciless in their attacks on any politician who has met with Brethren members, including a scurrilous attack on me for meeting constituents who later turned out to be members of the Brethren Church.
“It’s now clear that while Helen Clark was attacking other politicians for meeting with members of the Brethren, she had discussed political issues with them herself and been sent documents outlining Brethren positions.
“The public will be surprised about the extent of Helen Clark’s relationship with the Brethren when she and Labour have obsessively attacked them for two years.
“Every New Zealander has a right to participate in politics. Helen Clark’s meeting with the Brethren would be part of the normal business of politics if it wasn’t for her breathtaking hypocrisy.
“Helen Clark’s word on the Brethren cannot be trusted,” says Mr English.
