Pleasing public response to 1080 review
United Future MP Gordon Copeland is pleased with the public response to the submission process for the reassessment of 1080 currently being undertaken by the Environmental Risk Management Agency (ERMA).
"It is extremely gratifying to know that 1200 people have taken the time to make a submission on the future of 1080 use in New Zealand," said Mr Copeland.
"This indicates to me that there is a lot of public concern over the safety of continued use of 1080 poison in New Zealand, particularly by aerial application.
"United Future has pushed hard for this reassessment for a long time and it is very pleasing to know that our hard work has contributed to a broad, robust public process."
ERMA will hold two weeks of hearings around New Zealand in May to listen to people who wish to present their submissions in person.
"I expect ERMA to fairly review the submissions and deliver a result that will take into account the socio-cultural, health, and environmental factors that are paramount in the debate surrounding 1080 use," concluded Mr Copeland.
