Daylight Saving Petition to continue
United Future Leader Peter Dunne and Nelson City Councillor Mark Holmes have decided to continue the daylight saving petition until Friday 9 March so as to give people the opportunity to post in all their remaining forms.
"Originally February 28 was seen as a convenient date to finish the petition but the feedback we have received has meant that Cr. Holmes and I have decided to give people an extra few days grace to return the forms," said Mr Dunne.
The premise of the petition is to provide three extra weeks of extended daylight in the evenings; New Zealand daylight saving time to begin on the last Sunday in September and end on the first Sunday in April.
"With summer in full swing and people enjoying an after-work outdoor lifestyle it is a little depressing to think that on March 18, we have to turn our clocks back," said Mr Dunne.
"I would encourage everybody who wants to enjoy a longer summer to download a petition form, collect signatures from their family, friends and work colleagues and send it back to Cr. Holmes or myself as soon as possible."
Petition forms are downloadable off the United Future website at www.unitedfuture.org.nz or through Mark Holmes at mark.holmes@ncc.govt.nz.
