Party pills are just pharmaceutical
products
United Future health spokesperson Judy Turner has renewed her call to change the current status of party pills in response to the Social Tonics Association of New Zealand release of a proposed self-regulatory regime and safety code for ‘legal highs’.
“It would be irresponsible to allow the pharmaceutical industry to regulate itself, so why should the party pill industry be allowed to regulate itself?” asks Mrs Turner.
“Party pills continue to be promoted as a ‘safe’, consequences-free drug; however recent independent medical research has shown this not to be the case.
“The justification for banning party pills is quite clearly one of mitigating their danger, particularly to young people. For this reason I oppose their ongoing sale.
“If for some reason party pills are not to be banned then they require strict regulation from an independent body willing to hold the manufacturers to account if conditions of sale are breached.”
United Future opposes the current status of party pills.
“I want to see the danger regulated out of party pills by getting them off the streets," said Mrs Turner.
