Appointments to NZTE board announced

Three members of the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise board have had their terms renewed and a new member has been appointed, Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard and Acting Trade Minister Annette King announced today.

Chairman Phil Lough and board members Craig Ellison and Peter Menzies have been re-appointed. They and the other board incumbents will be joined by economist Peter Conway.

Trevor Mallard said Peter Conway’s expertise would be invaluable in helping New Zealand Trade and Enterprise enhance its contribution to the government’s work to transform New Zealand into an export-led, innovative and high wage economy.

"Peter Conway is currently Economist and Director of Policy with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions, and his appointment will make a significant contribution to the board’s range of skills and experience."

Peter Conway’s experience includes providing advice on the World Trade Organisation and other trade issues, including Thailand, P4, ASEAN, the China FTA and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. His other areas of experience include climate change, economic development, industry training, and industry plans.

Annette King says current chairman Phil Lough will be appointed for a further 15 months to 31 March 2008. Craig Ellison will also serve a further 15-month term. Peter Menzies will serve for a further three years to 31 December 2009.

"The re-appointments will allow for a more staged approach to replacing members of the board and the chair in time. Our emphasis is on retaining board members with specialised skills to oversee a step-change in New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s contribution to government economic outcomes," Annette King said.
