United Future's differential response model a success

United Future deputy leader Judy Turner is thrilled that the Differential Response Model for Child, Youth and Family Services will be rolled out nationwide.

"United Future thought up the idea of a differential intake model and presented it to the Government. We're delighted that they've agreed with us and taken it on board."

United Future created the Dual Track Intake model in April 2004. Now known as the Differential Response Model, it allows CYF to contract their medium to low risk cases to competent community agencies.

"It is a paradigm change within CYF and will help CYF get on top of the phenomenal number of notifications and focus their attention on the costly, high-risk cases.

"This model will save lives. United Future launched it two-and-a-half years ago and I only wish the Government had acted faster.

"Having visited the New Plymouth pilot and seeing the enthusiasm in both the NGO staff and CYF staff, I am confident that at-risk services will be massively improved by the Differential Response Model."

"It is great news that the Differential Response Model is proving to be as successful as United Future anticipated," said Mrs Turner.
