United Future releases climate change policies

United Future leader Peter Dunne and energy spokesman Gordon Copeland today released the party's detailed policy for coping with climate change.

"We are primarily concerned with indicating to ordinary people that they can make a definite and positive contribution in their daily lives to averting the worst effects of human-induced climate change," the two men said.

"It's too easy to get lost and confused by the high-level debate over emission levels and Kyoto protocols and so on, while ignoring the fact that we can all help by making our homes more energy-efficient and by using solar water heating or low-flow shower heads.

"Likewise we can, as circumstances permit, move to more fuel efficient cars or alternative public transport."

Mr Dunne repeated his call for a multi-party conference to be held at Parliament early in the new year so that New Zealand's climate change policies are commonly-agreed and won't be subject to the whims of the three-year electoral cycle.
