Climate change scientist receives due acclaim
Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons has applauded the choice of Antarctic expert and scientist Peter Barrett as Wellingtonian of the Year.
"This award to Peter recognises the immense value of his work on Antarctica's climate history, and in tracing the continent's role in global climate change. Thanks to his efforts, the wider public has been alerted to some very telling and important evidence about climate change.
"The judging panel for this award are also to be congratulated for recognizing the importance of climate change, and for acknowledging the contribution that Peter has made to the community's understanding of the issue, and to the necessity for urgent action."
