Dean and Sharples urge faster action on party pills
National MP Jacqui Dean and Maori Party Co-Leader Pita Sharples have joined forces in the war against party pills.
They've written a letter to the Associate Health Minister, seeking faster action to tighten restrictions on the sale and marketing of party pills.
"Clearly, party pills have the potential to cause harm," says Mrs Dean.
"Current regulations surrounding their sale and marketing leave too much room for those in the business of selling party pills - a $24million per year industry - to use misleading and dangerous tactics to attract customers.
"With party season approaching, and secondary schools due to close their doors for the summer break, we need to move quickly on this issue.
"The longer it takes to regulate party pills, the more people are exposing themselves to harm. This is an opportunity for us to be an ambulance at the top of the cliff rather than one at the bottom."
