Assurances needed from Police Minister
Police Minister Annette King must order an investigation into claims that it is 'common practice' for staff to access information on the police computer for their personal use, says National's Police spokesman, Chester Borrows.
He is commenting on a report of claims by a sacked 111 call-centre worker that the practice is rife throughout the police.
"This should not be happening.
"The private information held on the computer is meant to help fight crime, not be used by staff to check out girlfriends or for other personal use.
"It is a clear breach of protocol and privacy, and must cease.
"The public must be reassured that the information in the computer will be used for legitimate police work only.
"Annette King must order an immediate investigation to ensure access for personal use stops."
