AWOL Minister for Auckland clocks up air miles
National Party MP Bill English has released figures showing the Minister for Auckland issues, Judith Tizard, has the second highest domestic travel bill of any Labour Minister since 2000.
“She has clocked up the second highest bill for domestic flights of any Minister during the past year and her total bill of $337,719 for domestic flights since 2000 is second only to the Prime Minister.”
Mr English asked questions in Parliament on Ms Tizard’s travel bill in Parliament today.
“How can she claim that she is extremely busy working for Auckland when, in the last six months, over half of her media appearances have been for arts functions, including attending the same Royal New Zealand Ballet performance of Trinity in two different cities?”
Mr English has also questioned her representation on Auckland issues, when it was reported today that she refused a radio interview about Auckland’s stadium proposals on the basis that she didn’t want to be shouted at.
“If she’s not prepared to front on an issue of this magnitude for Auckland, what on earth does she do all day?” asks Mr English.
