Dunne: Auckland must make stadium
decision
United Future leader Peter Dunne says the decision on where the proposed national stadium should be sited is one for Aucklanders and their local bodies to make.
Mr Dunne said he had been approached by several local body leaders while attending a meeting in Auckland today and he assured them all that United Future would back whatever unified decision they made and would support enabling legislation.
"Last week, I expressed reservations about both the proposed waterfront site and the revamping of Eden Park.
"But the nation's overriding concern must be to have a suitable venue available to stage the Rugby World Cup finals and a venue that will be viable long after the World Cup has passed.
"The Government has stated its firm preference; now it's up to Aucklanders to make their minds up, and soon," said Mr Dunne.
