Solid Energy mining decision welcomed
The West Coast can continue to plan for its economic future following Solid Energy’s decision to keep mining at Spring Creek, says National Party Associate Energy spokesman (Mining), Chris Auchinvole.
"This will not have been an easy decision to reach," says Mr Auchinvole, who has been following the decision-making process since the initial questions arose over Spring Creek’s profitability.
"A lot of money has been spent and a lot of work has been done at all levels to reach a satisfactory outcome. It is a credit and a tribute to all involved - from the coalface to the board table.
“I am hopeful that with Spring Creek being guaranteed a life for at least the next five years, the social and economic benefits that the community has been enjoying in recent years can now be cemented in place.
"Spring Creek has also had a heavy investment in environmental controls, and it’s great to see that this example of modern mining will not be lost.
"I have no doubt that we will now see increasing investor confidence in associated industries and the region overall, which will help boost our permanent population.”
