Actor Elizabeth McRae and architect Don McRae are honoured by the Governor-General Anand Satyanand at Government House in Auckland today. Both were made Officers of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Their citations read:
Mr McRae has more than 50 years experience in architecture designing buildings, principally in the Auckland area. He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, a member of the Architectural Association of Auckland, the Mt Eden Planning Group and the Customhouse Trust Board. He was an actor for more than 20 years and is a member of the Association of Community Theatres, the New Zealand Association of Theatre Technicians and the Auckland Theatre Trust Board. He was a Mt Eden Borough councillor for 10 years until 1977 and was awarded the Mayor’s Living Legend Award by Auckland City Council in 2005.
Elizabeth McRae has been an actor in theatre, film, radio and television for more than 30 years. She has had numerous theatre roles with the Auckland Theatre Company, the International Festival of the Arts, the Court Theatre, Mercury Theatre and Theatre Corporate productions. Her film credits include Jewel’s Darl, Death in the Family, Never Say Die, The Dolls’ House, Iris, An Angel at My Table, Wild Blue and Jubilee. She has many television credits, including Radio Times, Mortimer’s Patch, Country GP, Pioneer Women, Shortland Street, The Overstayer, Growing Rich, Pio and Mercy Peak. She has recorded books for the Royal Foundation of the Blind for more than 30 years and was awarded the Mobil Best Actress in a Radio Drama Production in 1982. Elizabeth McRea was a member of the New Zealand Film Commission
