Prostitute breaks into prison

The Corrections Department seem to have as much trouble keeping people out of prison as they do keeping them in, says National's Law & Order spokesman, Simon Power.

He is commenting on a report that a woman, believed to be a prostitute, was found in an unauthorised part of Rimutaka Prison with an inmate who apparently had organised the visit with a smuggled cell phone.

"I never cease to be amazed by what goes on in this department.

"They must be the most incompetent department when they should be the most competent.

"They give prisoners trips to the beach, steak and ice-cream for meals, R-rated videos - and now it seems they offer a dial-a-prostitute service as well.

"It seems prisoners can do almost anything they want.

"I will be very interested to see the excuses on this one."
