NZ First, United Future, must oppose new tax
NZ First and United Future must say where they stand on Michael Cullen’s latest tax grab, says National Finance spokesman John Key.
“The leaders of both parties last year promised either no capital gains tax or no new taxes.
“NZ First leader Winston Peters wrote in October last year to a member of the public and said ‘New Zealand First supports savings incentives and is opposed to new taxes.’
“And United Future leader Peter Dunne wrote to a member of the public in December and said ‘United Future opposes capital gains tax, and I am happy to assure you that as a party we will not support any moves in that direction.’
“The Government’s capital gains tax, part of its planned changes to rules on taxation of investments overseas, is simply another Michael Cullen tax grab.
“Both Peters and Dunne are Ministers outside Cabinet in this Labour-led Government, and both say they’re opposed to the new tax.
“The question is, will they stand by their promises and vote against this tax? We will wait and see.”
