Taxpayers Foot The Bill To Buy Kiwi Made
ACT Leader Rodney Hide is describing taxpayer funding of $11.5 million for the Green Party's "Buy Kiwi Made" program as pork-barrel politics.
"'Buy Kiwi Made' is the price that workers pay to placate the Greens", Mr Hide said.
"This is nothing more than a taxpayer funded bribe to keep the Greens in Helen Clark's tent.
"People will buy from Kiwi companies if they offer a better product or a better price - not because politicians tell them to.
"Instead of meddling in our shopping baskets, Labour should be returning this money to the working people who earned it.
"The Centre for Independent Studies has just released a paper showing that Kiwis pay 50% more tax today than we did in 2000.
"Bigger government does not mean more caring government - it means increased dependence on politicians.
"Families make better decisions around the kitchen table than Helen Clark's Ministers around the Cabinet table.
"People can decide for themselves what to put in their shopping basket. We don't need politicians, spending our money, telling us what to buy", Mr Hide said.
