Copeland: United we stand, divided we
fall?
United Future MP Gordon Copeland says South
Island local authorities are to be congratulated for their
united opposition to the requirement to microchip working
farm dogs.
"I whole-heartedly support the decision of the combined councils to make a joint submission to the Local Government Select Committee," said Mr Copeland.
"It is a very pragmatic, positive step that will be a lot more effective than simply ignoring the requirement.
"United Future is right behind the rural community on this. Presently, I am involved in the drafting of a Supplementary Order Paper to amend the Local Government Law Reform Bill.
"The aim is to make the microchipping of working farm dogs a voluntary exercise rather than a compulsory requirement.
"It is vitally important that the rural community continues to stand united on this issue and fights it all the way," concluded Mr Copeland.
