Immigration Review Opens The Door For Real Change - Peters
New Zealand First has welcomed the release of a discussion paper as part of a wide-ranging review of the Immigration Act. This review forms an important part of New Zealand First’s confidence and supply agreement with the government.
“New Zealand First has always taken protecting the integrity of our borders seriously and we will work constructively with the government to ensure that many of the fundamental failings of the Act are fixed, “said New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“We must ensure that the system is able to meet the needs of New Zealand in the 21st century and has appropriate mechanisms for ensuring it is no longer susceptible to fraud or other abuse.
“There is some irony in the fact that for some years now New Zealand First alone has front footed this issue, copping flak from every quarter for doing so. At least it has resulted in concrete action which will process concrete change in the best interests of all New Zealanders,” concluded Mr Peters.
