May Be Good News for Aussies
New Zealand First is delighted that Australians may yet be able to enjoy the delicious taste of New Zealand apples, despite the best efforts of their Government to deny them this culinary pleasure.
“This sorry saga of blatant and unjustified trade barriers has gone on long enough, and it’s time for the Aussies to face up to their fears that New Zealand apples are superior to their own,” said Primary Production spokesperson Doug Woolerton.
“While it’s a fact that our apples are unrivalled, that is no excuse in this world of free trade and level playing fields to impose unfair sanctions. It reeks of double standards, and it seems that the heavyweights of the World Trade Organisation agree.
“Our Trade Minister has been in Geneva this week delivering a strong message to the Aussies about their spoilsport behaviour, and has received support from the US and the EU.
“This will hopefully induce some reasonable behaviour on the part of the Australians, and will be great news for all those Aussies who want to taste a real apple,” said Mr Woolerton.
