National pleased with Tauranga decision

The National Party says it is pleased with the decision of the High Court to confirm Bob Clarkson as the properly elected local MP.

“Mr Clarkson campaigned with integrity. He won Tauranga fair and square,” says National Party Leader Don Brash.

“He’s a great new member of our Caucus, and I’m delighted that he’ll now be able to put this matter behind him,” he says.

National Party President Judy Kirk says she was always confident Mr Clarkson would win the court case brought against him by the former MP for Tauranga, Winston Peters.

“Bob and his team worked very hard to win the seat. He deserves it. I’m absolutely convinced he’ll be an outstanding MP for Tauranga,” she says.

Dr Brash and Mrs Kirk say the public can draw their own conclusions about what motivated Mr Peters to launch the vexatious legal action.
