Memorial events for Rod Donald

Hundreds of mourners are expected at Parliament on Monday for a public memorial and celebration of the life of the late Green Party Co-Leader Rod Donald.

Mr Donald died suddenly on November 6 at his Christchurch home.

Both Parliament's Grand Hall and Legislative Council Chamber will be used for the memorial to accommodate the large number of people who are expected to attend, Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says.

Speakers will include Mr Donald's partner Nicola Shirlaw, Ms Fitzsimons, Prime Minister Helen Clark and Council of Trade Unions President Ross Wilson.

The memorial, which starts at midday, will also include audiovisual tributes to Mr Donald and live music.

It is open to the public and entrance is via the main steps of Parliament.

In Auckland a public memorial event to celebrate Rod's life and achievements will be held at 3pm, this Sunday November 20th, at St Matthews-In-The-City, cnr Hobson and Wellesley Streets, Auckland City.
