Anderton to visit flood damaged region on Sunday
Agriculture Minister Jim Anderton will review the damage caused by last weekend's storm in the Gisborne and Tolaga Bay areas this Sunday, October 30th.
"Government officials and technical experts have been meeting with crop producers and the farming community in the area this week to assess the damage. While the flooding has not been as bad as it was during Cyclone Bola, it has clearly caused many problems for local producers and farmers.
"I will be making a report on the situation to the Cabinet on Monday, including my own assessment of the destruction caused by the flood.
Mr Anderton will spend the day in the region from 9.30am to 5pm. His visit will include a presentation from the Recovery Team, a flight up to Tolaga Bay, meeting with locals, flying back over the Gisborne flats and a final briefing in Gisborne.
Media opportunities will be organised and confirmed tomorrow. These are likely to be in the afternoon in the Gisborne flats area. An advisory will be sent out on Friday.
