Dr Pita Sharples and Tariana Turia
Co-leaders of the Maori Party
17 October 2005

The Maori Party has chosen to end its first month in Parliament, with a clear statement of intention, to uphold its commitment to be a strong and independent Maori voice in Parliament.

“We entered into negotiations with all parties in good faith, and have appreciated the way in which our proposals were heard”.

“We want to thank all political parties for their willingness to engage with the Maori Party and we look forward to making a positive contribution to the Parliament.”
