Awesome Kiwi Roy Morgan poll
The final Election Day result is hard to predict although I am confident that ACT will be back with parliamentary representation. A new poll released yesterday that was commissioned by Awesome Kiwi and conducted by Roy Morgan, one of Australia's leading political pollsters, shows that Rodney Hide is in first place in Epsom despite both National and Labour endorsing his National opponent Richard Worth.
For reasons best known to themselves political commentators are trying hard to ignore the result and focused instead on an incompetently worded Colmar Brunton poll last weekend.
The Awesome Kiwi Morgan poll results were as follows:
Rodney Hide (ACT) 39%
Richard Worth (National) 32%
Stuart Nash (Labour) 12%
Other candidates 6%
Undecided 11%
Here is a quote from the "National Business Review" website regarding the Awesome Kiwi Morgan poll:
"Criticism was levelled at an earlier poll with similar results because of historical ties between the pollster and the Act party. In that case, deference went to other polls that showed Mr Hide well behind -- but failed to identify the candidates by name.
Roy Morgan is an independent Australian research firm with ties only to Gallup.
The poll, which was run on September 14 and involved a cross-section of 475 electors, showed Mr Hide ahead of Mr Worth in the Electorate Vote."
This poll was made available to the media yesterday and most of them have been studiously ignoring it. We look forward to some coverage by some of the more adventurous radio hosts today. The poll also discovered that most voters reacted in a hostile fashion to Helen Clark endorsing a National candidate.
A victory for Rodney in Epsom means that no party vote for ACT is a wasted vote.
