HRH The Duke of York to visit New Zealand
Prime Minister Helen Clark announced that His Royal Highness The Duke of York will visit New Zealand later this month, following a visit to Melbourne, Australia.
Prince Andrew will be in New Zealand for four days, and the focus of his visit will be two-fold.
He is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal New Zealand Army Logistics Regiment (Duke of York's Own), and will inspect regimental training activities at Linton.
He will also participate in the opening of the Nelson City bicentennial commemorations of the Battle of Trafalgar.
"I am pleased that New Zealand will host HRH The Duke of York, after successful visits by his brother the Prince of Wales in March, and Prince William in May.
"Prince Andrew will spend a day at Linton, where he will take the salute at a ceremonial colours parade, meet RNZALR personnel and families, and take part in a Regimental dinner.
"He will also visit Trentham Military Camp and attend a diplomatic corps dinner at Government House hosted by the Governor General.
"In the Nelson-Marlborough area Prince Andrew will also visit a training exercise by members of the RNZALR, and open Nelson's Trafalgar 200 celebrations.
"In Wellington, Prince Andrew will lay a wreath at the National War Memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Warrior."
The Duke of York arrives on 28 September from Australia and departs New Zealand on 2 October.
