Labour awash with even more worker taxes

Labour awash with even more worker taxes

"July tax data shows the Government is yet again awash with cash because of the continuing over-taxation of Kiwi workers," says National Party Finance spokesman John Key.

"The actual July tax receipts are nearly $100 million ahead of the updated pre-election forecast, which itself predicted more than $2 billion of additional revenue in the next four years.

"The figures include an additional $45 million from GST.

"The figures continue to make a mockery of Michael Cullen's claims that the country can't afford tax cuts.

"The government is flush with taxpayer cash. So much for the claims that Labour is not profiteering from extra GST revenue from petrol.

"Year-on-year numbers show a huge increase. July 2005 is running at $530 million ahead of July 2004, an increase of 11.4%.

"National will ensure 85% of taxpayers pay no more than 19% tax.

"This weekend the public will decide whether they support Labour's over-taxation and waste, or whether they want National's fair tax plan which rewards hard work and enterprise, and provides the right incentives for people to get ahead from their own efforts," says Mr Key.
