Dirty tricks pamphlet author won't front
Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons is disappointed that the author of a pamphlet designed to smear the Greens
would not front up when she went to visit him at his Auckland home this afternoon.
Instead, Stephen Win of Favona Road, Mangere, had hired a security guard to block Ms Fitzsimons from speaking to him and
ordered her off the property.
"I am disappointed that this man, who fronted this probably around $100,000 smear campaign, did not have the courage to
front up to me. I only wanted to ascertain who it is that he is acting for," she said.
"National Party leader Don Brash has today denied any responsibility for the pamphlet, but if it was nothing to do with
them, it seems to be someone very much like them."
The pamphlet, entitled The Green Delusion, contains numerous policies that point to a right wing agenda.
"It is about 50 percent outright lies and 50 percent half truths and gross exaggerations."
The pamphlet appears to have been shoved into letterboxes all around New Zealand, and its underhanded nature has
outraged members and non-members alike, Ms Fitzsimons.
The Green Party office had received numerous messages of support today.
"While this was obviously designed to discredit and smear the Greens most people are smart enough to see through it.
After all would you trust this pamphlet to tell you the truth, or organisations like Forest and Bird, Green Peace and
ECO, an umbrella group of about 70 organisation , who last week rated the Green Party's policies the best in terms of
protecting the environment?
"This devious mudslinging seems to be the work of a party that has no policies of its own," Ms Fitzsimons said.
