Smear campaign launched against Green Co-Leader
Smear campaign launched against Green Co-Leader
In a last ditch vote-grabbing attempt the Act Party has launched a smear camping against Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons.
An Act MP made allegations in a weekend paper accusing Ms Fitzsimons of unethical behaviour in her role as an MP.
"These allegations are demonstrably untrue," Ms Fitzsimons says
The allegations relate to Ms Fitzsimons' investment in wind power company Windflow Technologies.
"I have spoken openly many times about my involvement in this company, and have been reported many times in the print media and in radio interviews.
"My shareholding, which dates back to 1999, is also public information in the company directors' report.
"No legislation has ever come before the Local Government and Environment Select Committee, which I chair, that has provided any direct financial benefit to myself or Windflow Technologies and to suggest otherwise is just a blatant campaign to damage my reputation.
"It is no secret that I have been a supporter of wind power since the 1970s. Investing my savings in a New Zealand-owned company, using New Zealand technology was an opportunity to put my money where my mouth had been for a long time. It is not the same as putting your mouth where your money is.
"It is clear that Act is on its last legs and is prepared to resort to gutter politics to get publicity."
