Deep regret at tragic death of Kevin Smith
Leader of the Progressive Party, and Minister of
Economic Development, Jim Anderton today expressed his deep
regret at the tragic death of Kevin Smith of Wellington.
Mr Smith, at the time of his death was an advisor to the Hon Chris Carter but had previously occupied a similar position in the office of Mr Anderton’s ex parliamentary colleague, the Hon Sandra Lee as Minister of Conservation. He had prior to that been chief executive of the Forest and Bird Protection Society over a number of years.
“Kevin Smith’s contribution to conservation in this country was very significant. Although much of his work was conducted behind the scenes and without fanfare, he worked consistently and professionally on behalf of conservation issues, and had much still to contribute. His death at such a relatively young age is tragic. My thoughts and sympathy go out to his partner Tania and to his family,” Jim Anderton said.
